Picking the Perfect Color to Complement Your Outfit

Picking the Perfect Color to Complement Your Outfit

Did you know that there is trick to coordinating the color of your jewelry to your outfit?

Picture this. You have a great collection of colorful jewelry and you’ve always worn what you liked without giving it much thought…or you matched your jewelry color to your outfit. No worries. That’s what I’ve done.

But I have learned a secret…a magical way to use the color wheel to create a harmonious look. Because if you can pick the perfect color to complement your outfit, you are bound to get more compliments!

I found this fantastic video with style tips for women over 50, but trust me, it works for anyone. Let me break it down for you.

The trick is to choose jewelry colors that contrast with your outfit but have the same intensity. Soft colors play nicely with soft colors, and deep colors like to hang out with their deep color buddies. But the secret is they are all on the opposite side of the color wheel.

Confused? Picture this: Imagine that you are rocking a pale orange top. You may pick your usual matching orange jewelry, but do you see how nothing pops and it's kind of boring (yawn!)?

Opposite orange on the color wheel is blue. But you can't pick just any blue. Do you see how out of place this dark blue jewelry is? It just doesn't seem to go well with this top.

The solution is to pick a shade of blue that is the same intensity as the shirt...light orange shirt means you would want to pick light blue jewelry! Look at the harmony created by this color combo. And it's all very soft. It’s all about creating a contrast, but one that works together. Trust me, I wouldn't have thought about this either, but I can totally see it now!
